Blue Orange Green Pink Purple

Correct, i don’t get it. That’s a feature.

The economy in general, and the very existence of the middle class in the US, continues to collapse. We have congressional hearings that are pretty much a circus, continuous spin from the WSJ on the need to do one thing or the other, endless articles in magazines and blogs, and even guest appearances by prominent government officials on Comedy News shows, all trying to give their opinions on the causes and cures for our current economic downturn. Now it’s my turn.

BipartisanSHIT

After the State of the Union speech tonight, someone took a poll of “republicans who had not seen the speech”. 90% of them disapproved of its content.

What else does Obama need to know to recognize that his attempts at ‘bipartisanship’  are doomed to failure? They don’t want to hear anything he says. They will disagree with anything he does say solely because he said it, without even glancing at its content.

Conan the Blah-blah-barian

If one has the smallest interest in current events, it’s impossible not to know that Conan O’Brien has had a falling out with his network and is losing his night time talk show. I have two comments on this fact.

We Still Ain’t “Got MLK”

Today is a holiday set aside to recognize one of the great people of the past century. Human failures and all, for me he still serves as a role model for selfless living and as a champion of the removal of artificial barriers between people.

But who fills that role today? Nobody as far as i can see.

The other end of a life

Duty, responsibility, obligation. These things keep me going. But where are they taking me?

Mission Impossible: Giving Rollin a Hand

I work with an amazing group of engineers and support staff at CyberArts. I appreciate/respect some of them more than others, but there’s not a slacker on the team, and not one that i think doesn’t pull her/his weight.  Our lead server engineer is especially strong. I’ve thought i had come to respect his professionalism and skills since i joined this team, but a recent discovery let me know that i’ve respected him for decades.

Let’s Try Another Approach

A few senators are working hard to force their views on abortion on the rest of the country. Nothing new there. The folks who decry “government interference in people’s lives” the loudest are always the ones who try to use the force of government to enforce their own positions.

Reform? I Don’t Think So!

I’ve followed the ‘health care reform’ process carefully. BONK.  Instead of any true reform, it now appears that we’ve  got yet another massive gift to big business with little or no benefit to the common person.

Smooth move Democrats, you may as well all be Republicans if this is the best you can do.

Wallowing in the Pitts of Racism

Leonard Pitts has written yet another editorial on “the continuing scourge of racism”. I generally find him insightful in other areas, but clueless on matters of race. In this case, he has managed to completely miss the point of that data he is examining. Please follow the link and read this for yourself before continuing.

Over-overwhelmed

I have always lived intensely. In the past i sometimes chose that, but more often it was thrust upon me by circumstances. When i was younger, it was exhilarating. At 56, i find it exhausting.

Strange Pussy

I’m sure that title will get me the FULL attention of any male readers (and admit it, a few of you females as well!). Sorry to disappoint you, but this post is NOT about what you may have thought.

Child Protective Services – Spiritual Division

Disclaimer: I do not personally believe that any government agency should be permitted to take children away from their parents *for any reason*. I am not looking to debate that point in this post. I’m just noting it because while i think it shouldn’t be, it is the case that most of our citizenry support this idea at one level or another… “for the good of the children”.

Racing to equality

Maybe i need a new series to go along with the current series on right-wing-hypocrisy? I’ve had it up to hear with the nonsense that passes for honest dialog on equality issues. Neither side has a monopoly there.

Beat It

Unless you live at the far end of a very deep cave, you know that Michael Jackson died.

This event doesn’t affect me at all. I don’t know him personally. Strangers die every day, possibly millions of them, and their passing doesn’t touch my life. I have no personal reaction to his death, and my reaction to most of what is being said about him isn’t large enough to warrant discussion. But there’s one area i must comment.
