HH Gregg
This post is dedicated to my friend Gregg Lewis.
Unless you live at the far end of a very deep cave, you know that Michael Jackson died.
This event doesn’t affect me at all. I don’t know him personally. Strangers die every day, possibly millions of them, and their passing doesn’t touch my life. I have no personal reaction to his death, and my reaction to most of what is being said about him isn’t large enough to warrant discussion. But there’s one area i must comment.
I was chatting with some friends the other day and i finally put into words a brief summary of the yardstick i use to determine if i will respect someone’s religious/spiritual beliefs. It’s really quite simple.
It just won’t let up. More on the Republican way of standing up for ‘family values’…
This time i’ll focus on something done by Obama which i vehemently oppose.
One of the bastions of public morality, a harsh critic of Bill Clinton’s affair with Monica who voted for Clinton’s impeachment was busted for … you know it’s coming… having an affair! And yes, to make the comparison complete, it was with a junior member of his staff. But just to go it one better, Sen Ensign’s (R-Nev) affair was with a married woman.
Hey, when you’re on record wanting to protect the ’sanctity of marriage’ by hassling gay people, you really want to be sure that if you’re going to have an extra-marital affair that could ruin your own marriage you should target someone who’s also married as well. Everybody likes a two-for-one sale!
Hate radio is all ablather today about Obama’s ‘cowardice’ in not launching nuclear strikes against Iran.
“We should be supporting these brave people!” they cry!
“It’s just another example of the spinelessness of liberals that we haven’t set troops into Iran to support the revolution!” they complain.
I don’t need to list the gazillion places where Rush Limbaugh lives down to Al Franken’s book title. I’m sure anyone reading this is already aware that Rush Limbaugh is a big fat idiot. I suppose it’s also possible that someone accidentally came here and is reading the post who happens to disagree with that assessment. In that case i will simply say that i can’t fully apply the same expression to such a reader because there’s no way to determine just from this information if that reader is either big or fat.
There’s a song from the early days of rock & roll called ‘Poison Ivy’. Its lyrics say: “But Poison Ivy, Lord’ll make you itch”. Well, i just discovered that it can give an entirely different set of symptoms… if you are someone like me who experiences the most unlikely events on a regular basis.
Item #3. No adult leadership.
The Republicans are concerned that they have lost power. They are trying to find their way back. Fortunately it appears they remain clueless.
A short break from the “why i can’t take them anymore series”… or maybe not.
That’s the only thing that will be short here. I don’t expect the few regular readers i have to read this one. It will be long, even by my usual blathering-on-and-on standards. This post is for me, to help me sort this out, and to fulfill my rules of behavior that require me to be transparent in all things.
I’ve had a few events happen lately that saddened me, and i’m going to air them here publicly and share my ‘deepest thoughts’ about them. Frankly, i’m not so self-absorbed as to think anybody cares all that much about my deepest thoughts, except maybe Jason & Melissa, but as you will know if you’ve know me WELL, one of the rules i have for myself in all my relationships is best described as ‘full disclosure’. You may not like what you get in a relationship with me, but you WILL know going in what to expect , you can count on me being honest with you at all times, and you can then decide for yourself if that’s something you want.
Continuing the series on why i just cannot stomach any more of the total bullshit that is being continuously spewed by right wing parrots and their trainers.
I’ve been too busy to blog much lately… but i hope to knock out a few posts this week wit the theme that i want this country to go ahead and split into separate red and blue countries. Frankly, i’m just not interested in sharing political citizenship any more with the dishonest, disingenuous, slimy hypocrites who characterize the far right. I’m sure they don’t want to have to share political citizenship with a godless liberal socialist either, so this should be okay all around.
